Two fellowships with an emphasis on regional anaesthesia are offered in the department which offer an initial 6-month period of 2 days per week focused on regional anaesthesia skills and knowledge development to be followed by a more independent role with an emphasis on advanced techniques, research, teaching and training.

Fellows and advanced trainees provide anaesthesia under appropriate levels of supervision and work 43 hours per week plus rostered overtime, with participation in an after-hours call schedule. Trainees are entitled to 5 weeks of annual leave; other working conditions are as per appropriate workplace agreements. Fellows have dedicated research and education time, and involvement in Quality Assurance.

We perform over 16,000 anaesthetics per year covering all the surgical specialties, except for paediatrics and obstetrics. Regional anaesthesia is used in over 25% of cases.

There is a strong teaching programme with a dedicated half-day of tutorials per week and a weekly department education meeting.

We have a simulator on site which allows our staff and trainees to be exposed to anaesthetic emergencies to improve their management of these difficult situations. We have a strong research program, and at the advanced trainee and fellowship levels there is a strong incentive for clinical research. Our Department has many new research projects and over 20 publications per year along with a number of National and International presentations.

Applicants for this position must submit Curriculum Vitae with photo, the names & contact details of three referees by the closing date.
