  • NATCAT — National Airway Training Course for Anaesthesia Trainees

    • Cost - $495 in 2018

    • Duration — 1 day

    • Date — Usually held on a Saturday in November/December at Sunshine Hospital

    • Content — Combination of hands on skills stations, low-moderate fidelity simulations, PBLDs

  • ALS2 — Advanced Life Support 2

    • Cost — Various

    • Duration — 2 Days

    • Date — Various

    • Content — Advanced Life Support course including workshops and moderate fidelity simulations, with assessment and certification. Outstanding performance in this course may result in invitation to become an instructor. This requires additional training and commitments.

  • STAR — Skills Training for Anaesthesia Residents

    • Cost - $650 in 2018

    • Duration — 1 day

    • Date — Various, but usually held on a Saturday 2-3 times per year, mostly at Royal Melbourne Hospital, however alternative locations sometimes available.

    • Content — Combination of hands on skills stations, low-moderate-high fidelity simulations, PBLDs, CV and interview advice

  • Perioperative Medicine Short Course

    • Cost - $1400 in 2019

    • Duration — online

    • Content — Covers 12 topics related to perioperative medical management

  • Ultrasound Education Group Courses

    • Cost - $330 each (6 modules available)

    • Duration — 20-30 hours of learning time estimated per module (self-directed)

    • Content — TTE, TOE, Advanced TOE, Periarrest, Vascular, Lung modules

    • Content — Could be pursued by those with an interest in becoming involved in simulation education. This may be more achievable during or after the training program.

  • Certificate/Diploma/Masters of Clinical Ultrasound

    • Cost — Approx $30,000 for full Masters degree, however can be completed part time, or exit at certificate or diploma levels

    • Date — university semeters via online education platform

    • Content — Predominantly focused on echocardiography, with increasing emphasis on transoesophageal echocardiography at higher levels. Best educational opportunity would be with clinical echocardiography exposure to complement online learning.

  • Master of Critical Care (Sydney)

    • Cost — Approx $30,000, however can be completed part time.

    • Date — university semesters, via online education with intensive 1-2 day face-to-face workshops

    • Content - Coursework is provided in anatomy, pathology, physiology and pharmacology to help you prepare for college barrier examinations. In anaesthetics and intensive care medicine, you can pursue highly coveted expertise in neuromonitoring, pain management, mechanical ventilation or extracorporeal life support. If emergency medicine is your interest, you may choose coursework in retrieval medicine, point of care ultrasound or clinical reasoning and communication

  • Master of Perioperative Medicine (Monash)

    • Cost — Approx $30,000, however can be completed part time.

    • Date — university semesters, with intensive on-site block days

    • Content - The course is designed to facilitate the delivery of collaborative and optimal perioperative care to patients presenting with complex, chronic and acute medical conditions requiring surgical intervention by physicians working in the emerging field of perioperative medicine. The course adopts an evidence base and risk-informed approach to the justification of perioperative medical interventions within the modern surgical setting. Additionally, the course aims to develop skills in research and clinical leadership within this emerging medical discipline.

  • EMST — Early Management of Severe Trauma

    • Cost — Approx $3000

    • Duration — 2.5 days

    • Date — Various dates and locations, note often has long waiting list due to need for surgical trainees to complete this course prior to starting surgical training. 

    • Content - This course is designed for all doctors who are involved in the early treatment of serious injuries in urban or rural areas, whether or not sophisticated emergency facilities are available. This course may be best completed once on the anaesthesia training program, as it can be used to facilitate exemption for volume of practice requirements for trauma exposure.
